To help meet the growing demand for our diabetes treatment, Novo Nordisk expects to double production of diabetes drugs over the next decade. Novo Nordisk is currently building a new diabetes API plant in Clayton, NC next to our existing facility that employs 800 people. The new plant will initially employ 700 employees to produce the active ingredients for a new diabetes oral treatment and a range of other diabetes drugs.

Position Purpose: Establish & manage the maintenance department plus systems & activities to support the project phase, the transition into 24/7 operations, and full production operations.
Accountabilities:
Establish Maintenance Department staffing, systems & procedures to support the DAPI-US project activities & ongoing operations.
Manage four (4) maintenance supervisors across 4 shifts with total department staffing (approximately 50 personnel).
Establish all maintenance procedures for manufacturing processes (fermentation, recovery & purification), clean & black utilities, HVAC & facilities through collaboration with process owners.
Includes all maintenance activities, intervals & spare parts identification.
All systems and procedures are developed & performed per EHS & GMP requirements.
All systems and procedures are standardized across the site & all shifts.
Develop all training requirements and materials for maintenance department.
Ensure maintenance activities are executed on time & to standards.
Coach & mentor direct reports.
Ownership and coordination for all maintenance activities for site shutdowns.
Drive maintenance performance to meet business & customer needs by implementing Asset Management.
Ensure good communication & positive working relationships with key stakeholders.
Manage external maintenance contracts for equipment where applicable.
Drive improvements to maintenance processes & activities using cLEAN methodology.
Other accountabilities as assigned.
Education: Mandatory
BS/BA in technical field or equivalent combination of education & industry equivalent experience.
Experience:

years leadership/supervisory experience in engineering, manufacturing, maintenance with a preference toward pharmaceutical or other regulated industries. Mandatory

years in process/facility maintenance.
Experience with large project scope & execution.
Technical/Process/Functional Knowledge:
Expertise in pharmaceutical processes, utilities systems, electrical & HVAC systems.
Knowledgeable in how to manage maintenance activities in a GMP regulated environment. Mandatory
Demonstrates leadership capabilities, to include managing in a Lean/cLEAN/PSPS way. Mandatory
Organization/Planning: Mandatory
Proven expertise in developing/planning/organization/execution of maintenance systems & activities.
Creation of work plans for complex projects/plans being executed by cross functional teams.
Physical & Other Requirements:
Ability to work in & around an active construction site during project phase.
Ability to lift up to 30 lbs. with assistance.
Ability to work in confined spaces & near operating equipment.
Ability to work in loud noise environments.
Ability to travel internationally.
Ability to work hours necessary to support production & maintenance activities.
